Omaha Central High School is excited to announce 2010-2011 Adopt-A-School partnerships with Midland University, Nebraska Methodist College, and First National Bank.
Midland University is offering Central High School students, college credit in AP Calculus, AP English Language, and AP Chemistry. Dual enrollment students also have free access to the Midland University online resources and library. “Dual enrollment allows Central High School students to get a jump start on their college career. By partnering with Midland University, our students are able to earn college credit right here in the walls of Central High School.” (Cathy Andrus IB/AP/DE Coordinator) As the Math Club sponsor, Midland University has provided support to both high school and middle school Math Olympiads.
The CHS/Nebraska Methodist College partnership has opened opportunities for Central students to experience new settings and enhance their scientific knowledge. Science students are learning on the campus of NMC by working in their cadaver and phlebotomy labs. “The opportunity to take our students into working post-secondary labs, and give them hands-on experiences is invaluable.” (Jean Whitten – Science Department Chair) NMC is also sponsoring the Science Club. NMC has provided lab coats for the “surgery team” that goes into elementary schools and performs labs with elementary students. During the November teacher in-service, MLC provided free medical tests and assessments to the CHS staff. MLC faculty and students checked blood pressures and blood sugars, provided Diabetic and Nutritional informational materials and answered health-related questions. Cholesterol screening, producing immediate feedback, was also offered to the staff.
Central High greatly appreciates our new Adopt-A-School partners and continues to look for local businesses or community entities interested in promoting student excellence within or outside the CHS walls.
