A Monument In Stone

The transition from a "rickety tumble down building to this magnificent stone structure, the pride of the west, standing high on Capitol Hill and overlooking the whole city of Omaha" began in 1901 and was completed in 1912. Renovations have taken place since that time, but a student who attended Central during the building's early years would immediately recognize it today. Designed by John Latenser, one of Omaha's foremost architects of the era, Central High School's home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

50 YEARS LATER…THE REMATCH:
CENTRAL VS. PREP AT ROSENBLATT

October 8th, 2010

This fall, Central and Prep will meet again on the same gridiron where they faced off 50 years ago. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Central vs. Creighton Prep game, a rematch is being held at Rosenblatt Stadium (known back then as Municipal Stadium) on October 8, 2010.

Members of the legendary 1960 Central Eagles team are being invited to return for this much-anticipated game.

The October 8th game’s meaning takes on added drama as it will be one of the final athletic events presented at Rosenblatt Stadium, which will soon be torn down and replaced with the new downtown TD Ameritrade Park.

Mr. Keenan, Mrs. Aust and Mrs. Valdrighi. A Cappella, especially the fact that most of the girls' blazers were longer than their skirts. Dennis Brown, Gary Younger and Layne Yahnke drawing cartoon pictures during class. George Payne's mannequin hand, (stolen from my house at graduation). Memorial Park in the summer and in the snow. A lot of fun.
